Home Fire Safety Procedures
Home fire prevention guidelines
There are some rules or guidelines that, if followed, could save the lives of your family members. These have to do with home fire prevention, and should be learned and heeded by everyone:
* Never overload electric circuits
* Keep matches and lighters away from children
* Keep all flammable material away from space heaters
* Never smoke in bed
* Never leave burning candles unattended
* Test your smoke alarms monthly
Certainly there are other equally important home fire safety procedures. To learn more about these follow the information on our Safety Resources page.
Children's home fire safety procedures
Children can be actively involved in many aspects of home life and decision making. They do chores, they often participate in making and enforcing behavioral rules and they can be extremely responsible. It makes sense, then, to allow them to be part of establishing home fire safety procedures. When this happens they are more likely to remember the rules, practice them enthusiastically, and follow them to safety if there is a fire emergency.
The areas in which children can be involved, for instance, include planning an escape route and reminding everyone to practice it regularly, reminding their parents to check the smoke alarms regularly, and taking care to extinguish any open flames. They should also be taught how to use a fire blanket and to practice the well-known stop-drop-and roll if their clothes are on fire.
Keep your Xcaper available
Even though home fire prevention is carefully practiced there are times when a fire destroys all or part of a house. Those are the times everyone in the family needs the Xcaper Personal Smoke Mask. This small, affordable piece of safety equipment will help escape a smoke-filled building, giving you 30 minutes or more of ability to breathe safely. Many times this is the difference between life and death. If it is ever necessary for you to use your Xcaper you can return it to us and we will replace it for you entirely free of charge. One purchase can, in effect, save your life many times over.
