Fire Safety At Home
According to the Home Safety Council’s State of Home Safety in America Report, fires and burns are the third leading cause of unintentional home injury and related deaths. Fire safety and survival begin with everyone in your household being prepared. Follow these safety measures from the Home Safety Council to reduce the chance of fire in your home.
- Make sure to test your smoke detector least once a month. As smoke detectors do become less sensitive over time, it is recommended that you replace them every tenyears.
- We’ve all had it happen - the smoke alarm beeps when you accidentally burn your meal. As inconvenient as it may seem at the time, never remove the batteries from your smoke alarm in order to keep it from sounding.
- Keep fire extinguishers in strategic positions throughout your home. This is especially important for locations with only one exit or rooms where you store most of your electrical equipment.
- If you or a family member smokes within the home, make sure that the cigarettes are fully extinguished before disposing of them.
- As a further precaution, do not smoke while in bed. Cigarettes can fall out of your hand and start a fire while you’re asleep.
- Supply each member of your family with an Xcaper personal mask to ensure a safe escape.
